Follett Digital Reader is a great app for schools that use Follett Destiny as their library management system. The Digital Reader app provides access to FollettShelf and ebook content purchased through Follett. Students can check out books and read on or offline. Students need Destiny accounts enabled to use some features. Burlington uses Follett Destiny and students in elementary, middle, and high school have access to digital content with the Digital Reader app.

Subtexts allows students to engage in conversation about literary devices and terminology right in the margin of etexts. Teachers can follow the discussion and assess student participation. These presentations can be easily shared to student devices. Students can view presentations and answer questions providing teachers with instant data. Nearpod has been reviewed by Burlington teachers and is being used for several curriculum areas.

Google Drive is an App Essential for Burlington students and teachers. Google Drive provides 5Gb of free data storage and access to anything saved in your Google Drive account. Google Apps for Education users can use the app as creation app, storage solution, and digital portfolio. Students and teachers can access Drive content through the app or by logging into Google from any web enabled device. Drive has become one of the most used apps in Burlington Public Schools and allows our district to use their Google accounts much more effectively.

MyFitnessPal is being as part of our middle school health and nutrition projects. The app provides students with a simple view of what makes food good or bad choices. Students can also use the app to complete nutrition projects that track healthy eating habits.

JogNog provides thousands of assessment and review questions based on state standards by grade level. JogNog is a free app with several in-app purchase options. Students can use JogNog for preparation and practice before state testing. JogNog also provides teachers with quiz builders and ways to share quizzes with students. Teachers can see student progress and help them prepare for testing.

Marshall Simonds Middle School 8th graders will be part of a JogNog pilot during the first year of their 1:1 program.

Haiku Deck presentations are built around using images and less text. Students can use Haiku Deck to create presentations and for digital storytelling. Genius Scan is a Burlington Public Schools App Essential. Genius Scan is an iPhone and iPad app designed to make scanning very simple. Genius Scan allows you to scan important documents and school work or projects in matter of seconds. The scan images can be saved as JPEG or PDF. These images can then be shared.

Reviewed and used by many BPS teachers and students – Genius Scan is one of the best scanning apps available in the App Store. This app is useful for any grade level and all students.

Genius Scan is part of the BPS Student Digital Portfolio Tool Kit. Burlington teachers and students can use Genius Scan to take a digital image of student work and share for uploading to Google Blogger and the BPS Student Digital Portfolios.

Skitch is a simple yet powerful interactive whiteboard style app that allows users to take notes or create content that can easily be saved to their Evernote accounts. While Evernote is one of most important apps in Burlington, it does not have the ability to use hand writing for annotation. Skitch provides this missing feature and ties everything together well for users who rely on Evernote for notes and content organization. Skitch is also a great tool for creating how to guides and presentation materials.
